Blood Oath Pact No. 9

Lux Row Distillers · Kentucky, USA · Blend of 7, 12, and 16 Year

Bar Pour — delicious but not worth $300-400 a bottle.

Nose

Freshly baked bread, sherried sweetness, milk chocolate, dusty bourbon funk, nougat caramel

Palate

Fresh soft bread, green apple, sherried malt, crème brûlée

Lux Row Distillers made a name in the collectible whiskey space when it introduced Blood Oath Pact 1 in 2015. Since then, under Master Blender John Rempe, the distillery has released a new batch annually — each Pact blend different from the prior year.

This year’s release, Blood Oath Pact 9, combines some of the finest extra-aged bourbons Rempe could find — a 16-year ryed bourbon, a 12-year ryed bourbon, and a 7-year ryed bourbon finished in Oloroso Sherry casks from the Sherry Triangle region of southwest Spain.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Beautiful amber hue with a touch of honey gold

Nose: Freshly baked bread with sherried sweetness, milk chocolate, “dusty bourbon” — slightly sour and funky, reminiscent of late 80s/early 90s bourbon. Sweet caramel leaning towards nougat.

Palate: Warm — drinks at 49.3% ABV / 98.6 proof. Fresh soft bread (French bread), green apple, sherried malt, crème brûlée.

Final Thoughts

Blood Oath Pact 9 is a delicious whiskey — but at $300 to $400 per bottle, it’s not one I’ll be looking to add to my collection.
